Kakadu

We will re-visit Kakadu. Kakadu is now owned & controlled by the Bininj. There are a number of attractions including Yellow Water Cruises, Warradjan Cultural Centre, Nourlangie rock art & lookout walks as well as flights over the area. Meg had booked the flight for herself when she booked the bus trip. When we arrived she was the only passenger so we were fortunate enough to have a plane to ourselves. From the air Kakadu is quite rugged. We saw a number of spot fires which is apparently normal. After this we regularly spotted smoke from small fires. There are around 20 camping areas with fees around $5 per adult per night, a few are free and some require a permit. The rock art walk is interesting with some good rock art on display. After visiting Mutawintji & taking a tour with an aboriginal tour leader you start to appreciate the rock art which is available for viewing. The highlight for us was undoubtedly the Yellow Water cruise. This took us through Jim Jim creek and into South Aligator river. The bird life was astonishing and there was, of course, the occasional croc
