Cooktown
Here is the heart of Oz! On this very spot Capt. Cook beached his ship “Endeavor” in July 1770
after he ran over a coral reef and ripped a hole in the hull. The scene hasn’t changed except for
all the boats.. its a great spot for yachties.
Cooktown was one of our favorite towns: it’s small and still has that
real feel of a remote town - none of the glitz of yuppie-ville beach
towns. Botanic gardens shady, nice gallery/museum. Great
restaurant “1770” where good food, wine and coffee is available. We
just had to check it out for breakfast prior to booking it for the “dusty
crew” for the evening. They do great eggs benedict too!
Nice coral trout having its last fling at “1770”
